The Bills set a team record with 57 sacks last season. Everyone continues to rave about that front four and how dominant they can be. Safety Aaron Williams wants to remind everyone that secondary expects to be just as good and that begins with its newest leader.

Aaron Williams, Bills safety, said, “I accept the role of leading this defense to where it used to be.”

At the end of last year, Aaron Williams hung an autographed jersey in Jarius Byrd’s locker. It is a symbol of his gratitude, but also a passing of the torch now that Byrd is wearing a Saints jersey.

Williams said, “I wouldn't say I'm the new J-Byrd, I'm just myself and I'm pretty much just taking everything he taught me last year, how to be a pro and how to prepare each and every week.”

Williams is making a name for himself, not only as a threat in the secondary, but as a leader on team.

Williams said, “As long as I keep doing my job and doing my responsibility and keeping guys in the right positions to make plays, I mean I guess if you want to count that as a leader, you can.”

Doug Marrone, Bills Head Coach, said, “We've shown our commitment to him as an organization and I think that shows you that we feel that the sky's the limit for him.”

The expectations are laid out. The secondary needs to be as good as the Bills front four.

Williams said, “They get a lot of press in the front line and it's much deserved because they made a lot of sacs last year, but at the same time, you can't forget about the guys in the secondary.”

If the Bills secondary continues to progress like it did last year, Williams will have plenty of press clippings of his own for his fridge.
