A local judge has been suspended without pay after police say he lied about being attacked last year.

Investigators say Waterloo Village Justice Roger Barto told them he was hit in the head with a toilet tank lid and choked as he was leaving his courtroom in August of 2013. Investigators say Barto then collected more than $3,000 in medical benefits and stole gasoline that belonged to the village.

Police say Barto is facing several charges and is due back in court next month.
