A 20-year-old Brockport man says he wasn't able to stop his truck and it ended up in the Erie Canal with him still behind the wheel.

We caught up with Caleb Witt Wednesday morning. He tells us he feels lucky to be alive. Witt says he was leaving work on his way home from an overnight shift at Bonduelle, a frozen food producing plant, when he says his brakes went out and his car went flying into the Erie Canal off State Street in Brockport.

Witt said, “I’m going home, I was trying to stop and had the brake pedal all the way to the floor and it's in the canal.”

Witt escaped from his truck window which was already open and swam to land. Officials say it will take several hours to get the truck out of the water.
