The violence in Israel cut a school trip short for a college student with ties to Rochester.
Marlon Williams, who goes to SUNY Purchase, was on a four-week archeological dig about ten miles from Gaza. He just arrived back in the states this week. He says they could see missiles being shot into the air, black hawk helicopters and drones.
Marlon Williams said, “It was like, ‘Wow, we could be in a real war zone. Honestly, within myself, there was fear, but there was an attempt to keep everything going because you know, you don't want it to get the best of you.”
Williams says while he enjoyed being at the dig site, he was ready to go home. He got out of Israel just a day before the travel ban went into effect. Since then, flights in the area have been permitted to resume.
