People on Monroe County’s west side will soon have another health care option. The former Lakeside Hospital is set to complete its transformation in less than two weeks. Strong West plans to fill a void in the Brockport area, less than four months after Lakeside closed.
Strong West plans to open its emergency room on August 4. Plans will move forward as long as New York State gives its final approval.
Doctors say they will mostly be treating patients with minor injuries at the emergency room. More serious patients will bypass Strong West and go to full service hospitals with intensive care units. Hospital administrators say that opening early next month was a primary goal, especially since classes begin at the College at Brockport in late August.
Dr. David Waldman, Strong West Emergency Medical Director, said, “We certainly would like to be so that when the students come back to school, they have services available locally.”
Bryan O’Donovan, Strong West Operations Administrator, said, “I'm really focused on informing the community to use this property for what it was designed for.”
Strong West already has primary care doctors and imaging centers open at this point. The facility has around 100 employees. Half of the employees are former Lakeside Hospital staff.
