Firefighters and police say three people were hurt in a two-car crash early Saturday morning in Gates.
Officials say a driver lost control of his vehicle coming off Route 490 on Buffalo Road around 10 a.m. Investigators say it appears the vehicle went across the median and hit another car headed eastbound on Buffalo Road. The first vehicle overturned on impact.
News10NBC’s Web Producer Gina Capellazzi says she was two cars away from the crash.
“All of a sudden it looked like a scene from out of a movie. A white car came from the other side, went airborne and landed on the red car,” said Capellazzi.
Firefighters and police say three people were hurt in that crash, but we’re told the man driving the white car suffered the most severe injuries after he was trapped in the car for more than an hour.
“I think these five fire fighters have earned all the credit to put this kind of effort into saving a man’s life. I do hope the guy lives,” said Reno Mustard, a witness.
Firefighters say these types of situations are also dangerous for the first responders.
“This was a very delicate operation. We did not create the situation, but we do our best to mitigate it. That’s on us. We try to make sure we’re taking care of the patient as we remove him from the vehicle. It’s a lot of danger, not only to the patient, but also to us as well,” said Assistant Fire Chief Alan Bubel.
No word yet on what caused the crash.
