Hostilities have resumed in the Mideast following the decision by Hamas to turn down Israel's offer to extend a 12-hour humanitarian cease-fire by four hours. Hamas says instead that it fired five rockets at the Jewish state.
The Palestinian militant group says two of the rockets were aimed at Tel Aviv. Police in Israel's second-largest city dispersed a peace rally attended by several thousand people because of the threat.
The Israeli military said three rockets fell in southern Israel.
A Palestinian health official says more than 1,000 people, mainly civilians, have been killed and more than 6,000 have been wounded over the past 19 days, and Israeli strikes have destroyed hundreds of homes.
