The Rochester Red Wings sent 10 men to the plate and scored 5 runs in the 5th inning highlighted by a 3-run homer from Reynaldo Rodriguez as they took the opener of the two-game series against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, 6-1, Tuesday night at Frontier Field. With the win, the Wings have taken a 0.5-game lead in the Wild Card and inched to within 1.5 games of Syracuse for the IL North division lead.

Reynaldo Rodriguez (1-3; HR, R, 3 RBI) hit his first career Triple-A home run in the 5th inning -- a 3-run shot that gave the Wings a 4-1 lead. The homer was his 15th overall this season (14 at Double-A New Britain) but just his first since June 30 with New Britain. Rodriguez was called up on Thursday after hitting .308 with 32 doubles, 14 homers and 47 RBI in 98 games with the Rock Cats. The homer was Rochester’s 70th of the season and 23rd with at least two runners on base (33).

Alex Meyer's string of 5 straight quality starts was snapped Tuesday night as he lasted just 5.0 innings allowing one run on 2 hits and a career-high 5 walks. Still, over his last 6 starts, Meyer has posted a 1.54 ERA (6 ER/35.0 IP). It was his 13th start of allowing one or fewer earned runs this season in 21 starts and his 15th of allowing 2 or fewer earned runs. Over the last 11 games, Wings starters have posted a 2.48 ERA while limiting the opposition to a .212 BAA (49-231) -- including just 11 extra-base hits and only 4 in the last 6 games.

Doug Bernier (1-4; R) extended his season-long hit streak to 9 games with a single in the 5th inning. Over the streak, he’s batting .378 (14-for-37)...With a base hit on Wednesday, he would become the 4th Red Wings player with a 10-plus game hitting streak this season (Parmelee, Beresford & Ramirez)...Bernier had a career-long 11-game hit streak with the Wings last season.

James Beresford (1-4; 2B, R, RBI) set a new career-high with his 20th double of the season in the 5th inning (had 19 with Beloit in 2010)...22% of Beresford’s hits this season (24 of 107) have gone for extra bases after entering the season with a 12% extra-base clip for his career.

Deibinson Romero (0-2; R, 2 BB) extended his home on-base streak to 26 games. Over his last 26 games at Frontier Field, Romero is hitting .314 with an OBP of near .440. Romero has now drawn 7 walks over the first 5 games of the homestand and leads the team with 51 on the season.
