Congresswoman Louise Slaughter's office says she's fighting to keep your health insurance rates low by asking the state's Department of Financial Services to reject high rate hikes proposed by insurance companies for next year.

The congresswoman says some companies are asking for double digit increases, but she wants to keep rates affordable for New Yorkers.

According to her office, premiums on the state's health care exchange, part of the Affordable Care Act, are on average 53-percent lower than previous individual insurance rates.
