Strong West is celebrating its one year of caring for people in Brockport and the surrounding area.
On Friday, UR Medicine facility held a celebration and gave News10NBC a peek at some of its newly renovated space. Strong West opened up after Lakeside Hospital closed.
Right now, there is an urgent care facility there, along with other services. Soon, UR Medicine plans to open up an off-campus emergency department that will be staffed by a physician 24 hours a day and will take in patients via ambulance. Something urgent care cannot do.
One of the Strong West nurses, who used to work at Lakeside, talked about the impact that will have
Debby Klink, operating room nurse, said, “There are so many people out here living in the country. They don't want to drive into the city for every little thing. To go to an emergency room, they don't want to have to go into the city for that. They don't want to go into the city to have minor surgery done.”
About half of the employees at Strong West worked at the former Lakeside Hospital.
Strong West is also hosting an open house from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday.
