A man stole a $17,000 watch and police are hoping the public will help them make an arrest.
Surveillance video captured a man trying on a watch, wearing it and then walking out of the store. It happened at the Gold 4 Cash in Brighton in June.
The store manager says the man used to come in his store often, but he didn’t know his name. Investigators hope someone out there might recognize him.
Adam Freudenvoll, Gold 4 Cash, said, “I don’t trust anyone now.”
Freudenvoll says that is because one of his regulars betrayed him.
Freudenvoll said, “He knows me. He knows the store’s situation, just what kind of position you have put us in.”
The surveillance pictures show a guy in a black shirt, trying on a $17,000 watch and leaving with it still on. The watch is made with 18 karat gold and only eight of them exist.
Investigators say they rarely see something like this happen.
Investigator Mark Liberatore, Brighton Police Department, said, “I have seen high dollar items taken before, but never anything where an individual asks to try it on, stays in the store a little while longer and then walks out with it. It is not an accident.”
The video shows the suspect with what looks like his wife and child. Freudenvoll believes the man may have used his family to distract employees while he took off. Freudenvoll hopes he has a change of heart.
Freudenvoll said, “Bring it back, do us right and make an example for your kid.”
