A search for a boat in distress in Lake Ontario Saturday night has been called off by the Coast Guard.

Calls came in to the Coast Guard sometime after 7 p.m. for that vessel. News10NBC also received calls from viewers who spotted a flare over the lake.

Several agencies, including the Coast Guard, Monroe County Sheriff's Office and Canadian units were involved in the search that took place roughly from Russell Station in Greece to Forest Lawn Beach in Webster, and across the lake almost to Canada.

The search was later suspended overnight and no boat was found. It's not clear at this point if it was a false call.
