An attempted robbery led to a man being shot in his vehicle on Lake Avenue overnight.

Police say they were called to Lake Avenue near Glenwood Avenue around 2:45 a.m. for reports of shots fired in the area. When they arrived they found evidence that a gun had been fired. Moments later, dispatch received a call from a woman who said her boyfriend had been shot.

The victim, a 28-year-old male, arrived at Rochester General Hospital a few minutes later with a gunshot wound to his body. Police say he is currently in stable condition.

Investigators say the shooting happened as two vehicles were leaving the McDonalds at Lexington and Lake. Both drivers were waiting at a stop light when a man approached one of the vehicles and shot the driver. That driver left the scene of the shooting then got out of his vehicle and was taken to the hospital by the driver of the other vehicle.

Right now, no suspect is in custody. Police say the motive for the shooting is believed to be a robbery.
