Getting neighborhoods to take a stand against crime is the message behind “National Night Out.”

Tonight, several neighborhoods will hold events to mark the annual occasion. In Greece, there will be two events. The first event will be part of Dewey Avenue Family Festival, which will be held at 3000 Dewey Avenue beginning at 5 p.m. The second event will be held in the northern portion of Greece, at the Lake Shore Fire Department on Long Pond Rd at 6 p.m. A candle-light vigil and walk in Goodwin Park will also take place in honor of National Night Out.

"National Night Out" began in 1984 as an effort to get people involved in crime prevention efforts in their neighborhoods. It's also a way to help them get to know their neighbors and the police officers who patrol the area.
