Family members of a local father are still waiting for confirmation that he died. Jacob Baxter was a father of three. His youngest child is just six weeks old.

Baxter was hiking with friends near the Genesee River Monday when they say he fell into the water. Police found the body of a man nearby on Wednesday, but have not confirmed if it is Baxter.

Baxter was a worship leader at the New Hope Free Methodist Church. Family members say he dedicated his life to service. News10NBC sat down with his wife, three young kids and his parents. His entire family has come together to mourn, but also to celebrate Jacob’s life.

Chrissy Baxter, Jacob’s wife, said, “He was crazy in love with the Lord, he was crazy in love with his family, me and the girls.”

Jacob was a dedicated husband and father of three young kids. He was loved by many. The 27-year-old went missing near Rochester’s Lower Falls on Monday. Family members say he was hiking with some friends when he slipped and fell into the water.

Chrissy Baxter said, “He was always outdoors. It was part of what made him who he was. He just loved adventure.”

Police recovered a man's body from the Genesee River Wednesday about three miles north of the falls. They haven't yet confirmed the identity, but Baxter’s family fears the worst. He and his wife, Chrissy, had just celebrated their fifth anniversary. They had their youngest child, CJ, just six weeks ago. Baxter's mom says her son lived a life of faith. He was even a minister at his church.

Deb Baxter, Jacob’s mom, said, “At a very young age, he dedicated himself to serving God. When he was in high school, he and his brother, Tim, started a bible club.”

Baxter's brother, Tim, now lives in North Carolina. He drove up as soon as he got the news.

Timothy Baxter, Jacob’s brother, said, “I'm very proud of him and I wish I could have told him more.”

Now, his family and friends say they are relying on each other and their faith to get through.

Chrissy Baxter said, “I just know that it is going to be different, but I know that we will all be okay.”
