A 38-year-old Manchester woman is facing animal cruelty charges following an investigation from the Ontario County Humane Society.

According to the Humane Society, town code enforcement officials filed an animal complaint after responding to a report of numerous cats living in a trailer in Manchester. Investigators say two dead kittens were seen through the window upon arrival, and five more dead cats were found inside the trailer. We're told 12 live cats in varying states of health were found and taken to the Ontario County Humane Society.

The Humane Society says Animal Control officers were required to wear protective suits because of the unsanitary conditions of the trailer. We're told the floors were covered in cat urine, feces and garbage.

Investigators say they found Tracy A. Wijayapala to be the person caring for the cats and allowing these conditions. She was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals with other charges pending, and will appear in Manchester Town Court at a later date. The residence was condemned by Town of Manchester Code Enforcement officials.
