Fire protection in Brighton and Bergen is about to receive a boost.

According to Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, the Brighton Fire Department will receive $209,553 and the Bergen Fire Department will receive $61,750 from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The program helps firefighters and first responders buy gear, hold training sessions and do other things that allow them to protect you and your family's safety.

We're told Brighton will use the funds to purchase 54 self-contained breathing apparatus and cylinders (SCBA) that help firefighters breathe when in burning buildings and Bergen will purchase an in-house air tank filling system used to fill SCBAs.
