Brighton resident Carol Roberts met Robin Williams back in the 1980's when she was doing improv and stand-up comedy in San Francisco. He even got her an audition in LA.

Roberts says Williams was already a star on the hit TV show "Mork and Mindy," but still liked to drop in for open mic at local clubs. She says he was a warm, regular guy and remembers doing improv with him on stage.

"We had a big Spaghetti Jamboree and I don't remember the skit. But I do remember he was everywhere and at a certain point you just back up and let the focused and intense Robin Williams take over. He's like a tide - a tidal wave," said Roberts.

Roberts runs improv workshops locally and works with students at the Rochester Institute of Technology, but she's also a certified grief counselor. She says that comics by nature deal with pain, and are able to make fun of it in their acts.
