It was a special dinner held to raise awareness for autism. Autism Speaks of Rochester and the Finger Lakes raises hundreds of thousands of dollars for projects and resources for families dealing with autism.
The group held an awards dinner at the Burgundy Basin Inn on Wednesday night.
Colleen O’Connell is a mother with children on the spectrum who benefits from Autism Speaks.
“I think it’s crucial to have an organization like this. If we don’t have the scientific knowledge, where are we going to go with it? The kids aren’t going to have any answers,” said O’Connell.

The dinner was the official kickoff for the “Walk Now for Autism Speaks,” which will be held on October 11 at Monroe Community College.
