One golfer not shown in the highlights of the Wegmans LPGA is Emma Jandel. The rookie was turning heads on the course today and she wasn't even supposed to tee off at Monroe Golf Club.
Opportunity is a funny thing. Last week the defending U.S. Open Champion Michelle Wie was suddenly sidelined thanks to an injury. As her window of opportunity to win her second major of the year closed, the door opened for Emma Jandel -- the 609th ranked golfer in the world.
The Ohio State product has only competed in eight LPGA events this year and during her rookie campaign, only made one cut. After round one, she's in contention at three under par.
Jandel's hometown is over 450 miles from the greens at the Monroe Golf Club, meaning her family is unable to attend, yet her support isn't far away.
In April, the rookie played in her first LPGA event. It was also the first event she had ever attended. If she registers more rounds like she did today, she'll be attending a whole lot more.
