A former Rochester man died in a motorcycle crash in Las Vegas early Friday morning, according to our Las Vegas affiliate.
KSNV reports that Julius Gerald IV, 31, of Las Vegas, was killed around 1:20 a.m. in a crash involving another motorcycle and a semi truck.
Nevada Highway Patrol tells KSNV that Gerald was headed north on I-15 on a motorcycle, when another motorcyclist lost control of his bike and hit Gerald's motorcycle. Gerald's bike hit a median wall and he was ejected. Gerald landed on the road where he struck the rear tire of a semi tractor-trailer.
The driver of the other motorcycle left the scene and police are still looking for that individual. They are asking people in Las Vegas who may have witnessed the crash to call the Nevada Highway Patrol at (702) 432-5110.
Family members tell News10NBC that Gerald was a track star at Edison Tech and joined the Air Force after going to college at Alfred State. In the Air Force, he was stationed in Las Vegas and worked as an aviation aeronautical repair mechanic. During his time in the Air Force, he rose to the rank of staff sergeant. The family says Gerald just got out of the Air Force earlier this year. He is survived by his wife and three children.
