New York State Exposed Education Follow-up: First round of money distributed for statewide Pre-K initiative

On Monday, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the names of the local schools that will receive funding to open a full-day Pre-K program.

In our area, the Gates-Chili School District was awarded the most money followed by Fairport and Victor school districts. This is part of a state commitment to invest $1.5-billion over five years to build a statewide universal pre-kindergarten program.

In our exclusive report, we brought you the stories of parents who struggled to get their children into programs like this.

Studies show children in programs like this are far more likely to read at grade level and graduate from high school than children who don’t.

Schools that received funding in the Rochester/Finger Lakes area:

  • Red Creek Central School District, $288,596
  • Dundee Central School District, $185,307
  • Sodus Central School District, $184,651
  • Fairport Central School District, $360,000
  • Victor Central School District, $360,000
  • Gates Chili Central School District, $900,000
  • Generations Child Care, Inc. $174,922
