Xerox has filed a notice with the state labor department on its plan to lay off 121 employees.
We learned today that Xerox notified the state Monday about the layoffs. Today, company officials say they plan to contract out those 121 maintenance and cleaning positions.
Webster Town Supervisor Ron Nesbitt says he knew nothing about the layoff's until we contacted him. “I found out from Channel 10. They called me on the phone and asked if I had heard that Xerox was laying off 121 employees and I said I had not. Xerox does not usually call me on these matters, no."
According to documents filed with the state, the official layoff date for these 121 employees will be November 17.
Company officials declined to comment on camera but did issue a statement about the layoffs that says in part, “The closure of these operations is a business decision based on our global strategy of exiting non-core activities"
