If you have a student athlete in the house getting ready for a sport this fall, doctors are recommending that every athlete over the age of 12 get a concussion test before heading on to the field.
How does it work? Doctors test the kids on verbal and visual memory, as well as reaction time and processing speed. This test is then used again if a player gets a concussion to determine what is normal for those students. Doctors won't clear students to play until both tests match up.
Parents are also encouraged to petition their local school board to cover the costs of these tests.
More concussion clinics like the one held Tuesday are expected to take place again next spring.
