If you live in the West Irondequoit School District, you will be a seeing a slight tax increase.
After a special Board of Education meeting Tuesday night, the Board says the District will collect the same amount of taxes this school year compared to last year. However, because of a decrease in overall assessments, we're told the tax rate will go up a quarter of a percent. This means a homeowner with a home assessed at $100,000 will have to pay $6.72 more in taxes than they did last year.
The District did not get enough votes to exceed the governor's imposed tax cap putting a contingency budget in place and forcing several programs to be cut.
