NHTSA launches new online tool to help identify safety recalls on your vehicle

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has launched a new online tool in which car buyers and owners can use a vehicle's identification number to identify open or un-repaired safety recalls.
The site will show data if there's an open recall or it will tell drivers there are none. The agency also says used-car buyers can check for un-repaired vehicles before they make a purchase. You can find the search tool at www.SaferCar.gov.
Some 37.5-million vehicles were recalled in the United States in first six months of this year. That's more cars and trucks recalled than in any prior year.
