If you're a sports fan who likes to catch games online, you know the drill: you can watch out-of-market games with no problem but can't catch the games of your local team because of league blackout rules. Now, one of the major professional leagues is close to easing some of those rules.

Major League Baseball says it will ease the blackout restrictions on games - and the move could come as early as next season. Bob Bowman, who heads baseball's online business, says he's optimistic that a deal can be reached with the various cable operators, channels and ballclubs.

Bowman says a few years ago, the two sides were "4 feet apart" - and "they are now 6 inches apart" on the parameters of a deal to lift blackout restrictions.
