Changes this year to a popular Rochester festival that's all about local beer. The Flour City Brewfest is tonight at the Rochester Public Market and it's sending a message that upstate New York is one of the best regions for breweries.
This is the first year the Brewfest will be held at the Rochester Public Market and organizers tell us this is the perfect spot because it's all about local products.
More than 35 New York State brewers will be ready to pour beer and chat tonight, bringing in an expected 1,500 people. The event is all about enjoying and celebrating craft beer. Admission gets you a glass for unlimited tastings and the food trucks will be there as well as live music.
Organizers say this is another example of the local movement, especially with the recent opening of Hart's Local Grocers downtown. Paul Leone of the New York State Brewers Association said, “People really care about where their food comes from. People really care about where there beer comes from and today and especially around here, a lot of the hops are sourced locally, a lot of the malts are sourced locally.”
This event at the Rochester Public Market is only for people 21 and older and runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets are $40 at the door. You can also get them at Wegmans, Beers of the World and Rohrbach's.
