UPDATE: Deputies say 58-year-old Joseph F. Robinson was the man who died in the crash. News10NBC will be tracking this story on Saturday and will bring you updates when they are available.
Deputies say, as of Saturday morning, the investigation continues and the driver has not been charged at this point.
Sheriff’s deputies say a man in his 50’s was struck and killed while riding his bike in Chili on Friday night.
We’re told the accident happened around 8:20. Investigators say a woman was driving west on Paul Road when she hit the bicyclist, who was also traveling west. According to deputies, he was killed on impact.
Investigators say they do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in this accident. We're told the woman stopped right away, called 911 and tried to help the man.
Deputies say the man’s bike did have reflective gear, but investigators say the female driver was unfamiliar with the roadway. According to deputies, the stretch of the road is very dark.
"It's a dark area, there's no street lights at all. It's basically an S-turn so there's a double-solid line down the end of the road. It's very wide through that particular area but just re-paved, no streetlights. I do believe the operator was not familiar with the area so that may have also been a factor that we're going to look into," said Lieutenant Tom Rowe of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
