Police investigating sexual assault near Liberty Pole Way

Police are investigating a sexual assault on the city’s north side.

Officers responded to Andrews and Chestnut streets around 7:40 Saturday morning for the report of a rape.

Investigators say a teenager had been walking near Liberty Pole Way when she was attacked and sexually assaulted.

According to investigators, the victim was able to give officers a description of the suspect and police say they were able to stop a man matching that description nearby.

We’re told the man has been taken into custody and charged with rape, criminal sexual act and criminal obstruction of breathing.

Investigators say the victim was taken to Rochester General Hospital for treatment.
