Saturday wasn’t the perfect day for a run, but that didn’t stop members of a local church from holding a 5K to benefit a great cause.

Living Word Temple of Restoration held its Women and Youth 5K at Genesee Valley Park. Organizers of the event say the focus was to help raise money for the community and to get children to think about their health and making smart decisions.

“It’s very important, we’re a diverse community. We have a large constituency of African American and Latino children. Health was a big issue in that community and it began as part of our youth ministry to get people active, thinking about their health and making healthy choices,” said Bishop William Turner.

Proceeds from the race today went to benefit youth programs and the organization called Alternatives for Battered Women.
