→THE ROCHESTER RED WINGS used a three-run sixth inning to rally past the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 4-2, Monday night at Frontier Field in front of a crowd of 10,970 fans. With the win, the Wings won their first series since taking 3 of 4 from Indianapolis July 25-28. Rochester remains 1.5 GB of Pawtucket in the IL Wild Card with just 6 games left in the regular season. The Wings have an off day Tuesday, before starting a two-game series in Syracuse on Wednesday.
→AFFILIATION EXTENSION: Following the first inning of Monday’s game the Twins and Red Wings jointly announced the extension of their Player Development Contract through the 2016 season.
→ALEX MEYER (7-6, 3.41 ERA) tossed six innings allowing two runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out four over his season-high 105-pitch outing (66 strikes). Meyer recorded his first win since July 29 vs. LHV. Meyer is scheduled to make one more start in the regular season on Saturday night vs. BUF at Frontier Field.
→PEDRO FLORIMON (2-for-4; 3B, RBI) gave Rochester their first run with an RBI triple in the first inning. He recorded his 18th multi-hit game and is now hitting .321 (18-for-56) with six doubles, two triples, and a home run and 11 RBI over his last 16 games.
→A.J. ACHTER locked down his tied for career-high sixth save in his three-inning performance. Achter allowed one hit and struck out three batters while facing the minimum on just 37 pitches. Over his last 4 outings he’s allowed just one run on 7 hits over 10.1 innings (0.87 ERA).
→DANIEL ORTIZ (1-for-4; 2B, RBI, R) doubled in the sixth inning tying the score 2-2. In the four-game series vs. Scranton, Ortiz batted, .400 (4-for-10) with a 2B, HR, 2 RBI, and 2 R.
→SEEING DOUBLE: With Chris Colabello’s (1-for-2; 2B, 2 BB, R) lined double into right field in the eighth inning the Wings recorded their 293rd two-bagger of the season. The 293 doubles is 2nd-best in ALL of baseball. With 7 more doubles, the Wings will reach 300 in a season for just the 4th time in franchise history (last: 2004).
