Investigators say a driver asleep at the wheel caused a crash near Eastview Mall. Now, a Rochester man is facing several charges. We’re told the driver didn’t have a license and had a suspended registration.
Investigators say this happened at 5 p.m. Monday on Route 96 at Commons Boulevard -- which is the entrance to the mall.
Deputies say 20-year-old Jose Lugo slammed into the back of an SUV stopped at the light. The impact forced the SUV into a guard rail. A 23-year-old passenger in that vehicle was taken to Rochester General Hospital for neck pain.
Lugo was ticketed for following too closely, unlicensed operator, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating without insurance, operating with a suspended registration and improper license plates.
