It’s a new system to alert you to a potential emergency.

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks says the Emergency Communications Department will begin testing its new notification system Thursday.

CodeRED will be used to send phone calls, text messages and emails with important safety information to people. This system is replacing the Hyper-Reach system which was used to let people know about things like natural disasters and criminal activity in certain areas.

Those who had a number registered with Hyper-Reach and anyone with a landline will be transferred to the new system.
