The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office says a nine-year-old boy and his uncle were seriously injured in an ATV accident on Sunday.

Deputies say 36-year-old Edward Lagenfield was operating an all-terrain vehicle with his 9-year-old nephew Kenneth Bird Junior riding with him when Lagenfield struck a tree in a yard and both were thrown from the ATV.

Lagenfield and Bird were both taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, according to investigators. Deputies say Bird was wearing a helmet, but Lagenfield was not.

Right now, Bird is listed in guarded condition; no condition update was listed for Lagenfield.
