A Canandaigua woman is in guarded condition this morning after deputies say she was hit by a car while going to get her mail.

Investigators say 86-year-old Joyce Reed was crossing County Road 4 in Hopewell when she walked into the path of an oncoming car. They say the driver tired but couldn't avoid hitting Reed.

She was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with head and leg injuries.

No tickets have been issued at this time.
