Across the state, people are remembering a Rochester Police officer who was killed in the line of duty.
Governor Cuomo has ordered flags at state and government buildings to be flown at half-staff today in honor of the fallen officer. Investigators say Officer Daryl Pierson was shot and killed Wednesday during a traffic stop on Hudson Avenue near Warsaw Street. Investigators say Thomas Johnson III, got out of his car and ran away. They say when officer Pierson caught up with him, Johnson fatally shot him. Officer Pierson's partner Officer Michael DiPaola shot Johnson after he turned to fire at him. Police say an innocent bystander was also struck.
Johnson was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital where he remains in intensive care.
