ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC/NBC4) — Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine is slightly more effective than Pfizer’s or Johnson & Johnson’s in preventing hospitalization, especially four months after vaccination, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said Friday.

The report used data from nearly 3,700 people at 21 hospitals in 18 states from March 11 to Aug. 15.

It found that overall, the Moderna vaccine was 93% effective at preventing hospitalization for COVID among American adults without compromised immune systems, that the Pfizer was 88% effective and the J&J vaccine was 71% effective.

When those figures were broken down to two groups: 14-120 days after vaccination and more than 120 days after vaccination, it found the Moderna vaccine was 92% effective against hospitalization more than 120 days after vaccination and the Pfizer was 77% effective.

The CDC didn’t break those numbers down for the J&J vaccine but did note the efficacy was 68% more than 28 days after vaccination.
