A three-year-old boy was seriously injured after he was accidentally shot in the chest in the Town of Bennington in Wyoming County.
In a Monday night news release, deputies said the shooting happened just before 8 a.m. on Saturday.
Deputies tell us the boy was shot in the chest/shoulder with a .45 caliber handgun at a home on Tooley Road. The boy was rushed to the children's hospital in Buffalo where he underwent surgery which deputies say he survived. No further information on his condition was made available.
Right now, the investigation into the shooting is underway. Deputies are treating the shooting as an accident. They say the boy was hurt after he came in contact with the loaded gun in the living room of the home. The gun is registered to the boy's father.
At this time, deputies say they are working to determine if and what criminal charges may be issued.
