Deputies: Victor man faces multiple charges after chase

A Victor man is facing more than a dozen charges total in two jurisdictions after deputies say he led them on a chase.

Deputies say it all started when they pulled over Robert J. Flynn, age 48, on Route 63 near American Rock Salt in Groveland. During the stop, Deputy John Morgan says he found an open Budweiser can in Flynn's vehicle's center console.

Deputy Morgan called a sheriff's STOP-DWI unit to the scene. But, as the deputy continued to speak with Flynn, investigators say Flynn became uncooperative and started the truck up and tried to put it in drive. The deputy tried to stop Flynn, but says Flynn slammed the truck's door on his arm and sped off.

Deputy Morgan chased Flynn with lights and sirens on, but Flynn didn't stop. They say Flynn took Jones Bridge Road to Crossett Road towards the Village of Geneseo.

But, deputies say, as Flynn approached Geneseo, he ran over stop sticks that had been laid by Geneseo Police Officer Ben Swanson. The device punctured Flynn's tires and deputies say they were able to box him in.

Flynn was then removed from the vehicle at gun point and taken into custody.

Deputies charged Flynn with:

In the Town of Groveland

  • Failure to keep right
  • Harassment
  • Reckless endangerment
  • Speeding
  • Aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle
  • Open container
  • Unlawful fleeing a police vehicle

In the Village of Geneseo

  • Felony driving while intoxicated
  • Felony aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle
  • Unlawful fleeing a police vehicle
  • Resisting arrest
  • Speeding
  • Ignition interlock violation
  • Refusing a breath test

On top of the arrest, deputies say Flynn has three previous DWI convictions. He is being held in jail without bail.

“You know the old saying, ‘don’t mess with a Deputy Sheriff?’ Well don’t,” concluded Sheriff Dougherty in a release.
