Wet weather forces early end to Honeoye Falls tradition

The wet weather affected a day many people had planned for, including Father's Day cookouts, golfing, and one community's 40-year-old tradition.

Father's Day usually means the annual Festival on the Green weekend in Honeoye Falls. The rain, however, sent everyone home a little early on Sunday.

"We're finishing up a little early," said Jim Kanaley, an organizer on the Festival on the Green committee.

"We had a thunderstorm come through unfortunately right in the middle of the community band here."

After some time under a gazebo, the weather cleared, but with the weather unsettled for the rest of the night, the festival was called, with barely enough time for one last popcorn purchase.

The festival has been taking place in Honeoye Falls for 40 years, and had been in planning since January. Mother Nature, though, didn't seem to care.

"We had plastic bags and so forth ready for the speakers," says Kanaley, "There is some valuable equipment. We had plastic ready to go to cover it up."

The pouring rain could have done serious damage- something they wanted to avoid.
