The votes are in and a new creation will replace a controversial image on Rochester's Dentzel Carousel at Ontario Beach.

Voters cast their ballots at Central Church of Christ Saturday to choose between three images of a panther to go on the merry go round.

The city, the Baobob Cultural Center and the Take It Down Planning Committee organized the vote to replace a century old picture widely criticized as racist.

The winning artist, Michael Deluca, says he studied the carousel and its decorations to make sure his creation would fit in.

"That became a big part of it. To mimic what was there. And I wanted to create a spirit… show a spirit of the panther to come through and it's size and show the grace and power and beauty of it," explained Deluca.
