She's one of the best players on the best team in New York State -- which also happens to be one of the best teams in the nation. Combine that with her skills off the field and you’ll know why Aleah Martone is our Scholar Athlete of the Week.
The Spencerport girls soccer team is undefeated and anchoring the attack from the left side of the midfield is Aleah Martone.
The senior midfielder has helped the Rangers to a near perfect record -- just one tie so far this year -- and she says it's because of the way the team practices.
"We treat every practice like it's a game and expect performance like a game, good crosses, one touches," Aleah tells us.
And all of that hard work in practice has led the Rangers to be named one of the best teams in all of America.
"At first, it was overwhelming and it hasn't sunk in fully," she says. "It's exciting and my teammates will carry it with us."
But soccer is only one of Aleah's talents: Academically, she's ranked second in her class at Spencerport and unofficially she's ranked as the fastest cup stacker in New York State -- seriously.
Aleah's so good at cup stacking that she competed at the 2015 World Cup Stacking Championships in Montreal.
"It was incredible to see how one sport that's so simple, stacking cups, was able to bring us together, it was crazy but it was such a cool experience," she says.
Congratulations Aleah Martone, the News10NBC Scholar Athlete of the Week, presented by Nixon Peabody and the Ide Family of Dealerships.
