Harley's Imani Baker is already a Sectional champion in track and field, and this fall she was one match away from adding a volleyball trophy to her collection.
Now, it's basketball season and Imani has eyes on making another run towards a basketball Sectional title.
"It's a rebuilding year for us, but we definitely have some potential on the team," she says. "They're not expecting much from us but we're going to come out and surprise everybody."
Harley is one of the smallest schools in Section V, so they combine their sports with Allendale Columbia, so roughly half of Imani's teammates are kids that she doesn't go to school with. Still, she says that the biggest influence she can make on her teammates begins before she ever takes the court.
"You can make a really big impact on your team and your attitude is everything," says Imani. "If you go in with a positive outlook on the situation your teammates will too and work just as hard as you."
A captain in all three of her sports and a recipient of multiple leadership awards, Imani says her drive and determination comes from her family.
"Seeing my mom and my family work hard every day is definitely a good influence on me to not let what they worked hard for go to waste," she says.
Congratulations to Imani Baker, the News10NBC Scholar Athlete of the Week, presented by Nixon Peabody and the Ide Family of Dealerships.
