'Riders edge Wings in series opener

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders edged the Rochester Red Wings 4-3 Monday night at Frontier Field. The loss trimmed the Wings' lead over Lehigh Valley for the wild card playoff spot to two games. The series continues Tuesday at 7:05 pm featuring another Fan 4-Pack Night with four tickets, hot dogs, drinks and a yearbook for $36 ($40 day of game).

The RailRiders struck first in the top of the first inning with a RBI single by Billy McKinney off of David Hurlbut to make the score 1-0.

Rochester struck back in the bottom of the second inning when ByungHo Park took Chance Adams deep to left field for a solo homer, tying the game at 1-1.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre regained the lead in the top of the third with a Donovan Solano RBI double that made the score 2-1.

Hurlbut was relieved in the top of the sixth inning by Yohan Pino. Hurlbut finished with five innings pitched, he surrendered two runs and four walks while striking out four on 105 pitches, 69 for strikes.

The RailRiders padded their lead in the top of the single when Starlin Castro, who was on a rehab assignment from the Yankees, singled home Jake Cave making it 3-1. Castro later scored on a sacrifice fly by Donovan Solano extending the lead to 4-1.

Matt Hague singled in the top of the sixth that gave the Red Wings two runners on while extending his hitting streak to seven straight games.

Hague's single also brought Chance Adams' night to a close when he was relieved by J.P. Feyereisen. Adams finished with 5.1 innings pitched, giving up three runs on four hits, while walking two and striking out five. He threw 101 pitches, 61 of which were strikes.

An error by Scranton/Wilkes-Barre third baseman Miguel Andujar allowed Daniel Palka to score making it 4-2 and also gave the Wings two runners in scoring position with one out. Rochester scratched across one more run on an Anthony Recker RBI single cutting the deficit to 4-3.

John Curtiss relieved Pino in the top of the ninth with a runner on, and notched two strikeouts.
