She's a master of strings, be they in a tennis racket or inside of a piano. This week's Scholar Athlete has mastered both.
"Practicing, you have to be disciplined, you can spend an hour to perfect your serve or an hour to perfect one line of music," she says.
A Sectional champion in tennis this past fall, Churchville-Chili senior Laura Freeman will play tennis and major in piano and music performance at Roberts Wesleyan next fall.
"They want their players to be good academic students as well as good tennis players," she says. "I want to play tennis but focus on school too."
Staying focused shouldn't be a problem for the member of the National Honor Society. Whether it's studying for a test, reading lines of music or preparing for a match, the five-year captain of the Saints tennis team is always tuned to improve.
"The nice thing about the tennis team is we all worked together and wanted to make each other better," Laura tells us.
