Her goal is to be a pediatric physicians’ assistant. She has already been accepted at Gannon University in Pennsylvania but Rachel’s senior year has been anything but paved and easy. Last month she lost her mother to lung cancer. Her release and her salvation in dealing with the loss has been her swimming. “It’s really an out for me to able to get everything out of my head it makes it easier.” Rachel has been on varsity for six years, MVP for three and all -ounty for three. She continued with her sport and school work all while caring for her mom while she was sick. “It's a stress reliever you can take your anger out on the water and not have to think about it anymore.” Rachel's resilience is remarkable. Her ability to lead her team in the wake of her own loss is rare. “I like to be a role model to my team to be better swimmers but to know how to treat their competition so hopefully they can be other people's role models.” This week’s News 10NBC Scholar athlete of the week brought to you by Wendy’s and MCC. |
