Officials released the specifics about next year’s PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club.

Next August will mark the third time the PGA Championship has come to Oak Hill. It’s one of golf’s four major championships.

Most local golf fans won’t remember long shot Shaun Micheel winning the 2003 PGA Championship, but they do remember the excitement of having the best in men’s golf in Rochester.

Ryan Cannon, 95th PGA Championship Tournament Director, said, “This is going to be the sporting event of the year it's here at Oak Hill.”

The PGA Championship returns to Oak Hill’s east course for a third time next August. Tournament Director Ryan Cannon says 27,000 people are expected each day of the tournament. Due to the anticipated high demand, fans are being asked to register for tickets now before they go on sale in early August.

Cannon said, “It’s a huge opportunity and it takes a few seconds. It’s free, no obligation, but you want to reserve your spot in line when they do come on sale, you’ll be able to buy as many tickets as you want.”

Volunteers are also being asked to sign up now. 3500 people are needed on 40 committees.

Cannon said, “We only ask you volunteer to work three or four shifts a few days a week. Some can be fulfilled all before the tournament starts and you get a credential for the week, food and water vouchers, a program and a unique uniform.”

Cell phones are also being allowed for the first time and young golfers are being encouraged to attend. Anyone under 17 can come for free with a ticketed adult.

Cannon said, “Any ticketed adult you can bring up to four kids for free, so during a practice round for 25 bucks you can bring a family and come spend the day watch the best players in the world in an unbelievable setting at a major championship.”
