After 15 seasons and a trip to the Stanley Cup, Buffalo Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff has been fired. The team has struggled all season and changes were imminent.
Lindy Ruff was relieved of his duties Wednesday, ending the longest coaching tenure in the NHL.
Ruff was let go shortly after the team held a 90-minute practice. General manager Darcy Regier held a news conference, confirming that Amerks Coach Ron Rolston will take over as the head coach for the remainder of the season. He will join the team in Toronto for Thursday's game. Amerk center Kevin Porter is also being called up.
Regier says the decision to fire Ruff was a tough one. He says the Sabres loss to Winnipeg was the “tipping point." He says the team wasn't getting to where it needed to be.
The Sabres are 6-10 and -1 and have gone have gone 4-10-1 since opening the season winning their first two games.
Amerks Assistant Chadd Cassidy will take over head coaching duties for Rochester as the Amerks host Texas Wednesday at the Blue Cross Arena.
