Webster Thomas senior Eileen O'Hara is ranked fourth in her class with a 98 average. She has taken four AP's and doesn't shy away from hard work.
Eileen O'Hara, Webster Thomas Scholar Athlete, said, “It's something that if I have chance, I'll take more difficult classes here. I have to study more. I don't mind.”
Eileen spends her mornings at Rochester General Hospital as part of the New Visions Program, where she rotates through medical fields. She hopes to become a nutritionist.
O'Hara said, “It takes me away from classes but I think it's a valuable experience.”
A lifelong Irish dancer, Eileen also plays the violin. Last summer, she traveled to the Dominican Republic through the Outreach 360 Program where she helped to run a camp for children.
O'Hara said, “We taught them English, grammar, hygiene. It was great. We volunteered and worked on our Spanish skills.”
Sports is also something Eileen works on year round. She has been on varsity cross country, indoor and outdoor track since her freshman year. She has served as captain of all three and was the only one on her team to take part in states and nationals.
O'Hara said, “I just like that. From 3:30 until 5:30, I go to practice and think about running. I don't have to think about other things that stress me out. I have control over my running.”
Eileen was All-Greater Rochester first team in the 1,000 meters and first and second team all-county in cross country. She plans to purse her sport at college. She will attend SUNY Binghamton in the fall.
O'Hara said, “I'm excited for the classes they offer, the chance to run against greater competition, I'm looking forward to it.”
